The Story Behind Luke Evans Small Sugar Skull Ring

Luke Evans Jewellery - Skull ring - window

The Sugar Skull has long been one of BeckonJewel’s most recognisable sculptural designs - bold, symbolic, and rich in detail. In 2024, a meaningful moment unfolded when a version of this piece appeared publicly on Luke Evans’ Instagram Story, where he wore the Small Sugar Skull Ring and tagged BeckonJewel. The post was soon recirculated by fan pages, creating a wave of organic visibility.

The original Sugar Skull Ring, also worn by Pete Wicks, is a prominent, weightier design - striking and unapologetically bold. While exploring the BeckonJewel catalogue, Evans was immediately drawn to its sculptural character and symbolism.

The ring he ultimately wore was a specially refined version of the original. After viewing the collection, he gravitated toward the Sugar Skull but preferred a more compact scale, inspiring the creation of the Small Sugar Skull - now a signature piece within the BeckonJewel collection.

Hand-crafted in sterling silver, the ring retains the intricate detailing of the original, with proportions tailored for those who favour a more understated fit. Its symbolism - reflecting mortality, resilience, and the beauty of life’s impermanence - sits firmly at the heart of the brand’s storytelling.

While ongoing discussions remain private, this creative exchange began organically. Evans expressed genuine appreciation for the craftsmanship, describing the design as "really lovely." His interest offered an authentic moment of recognition for BeckonJewel’s sculptural approach.

A memorable encounter followed when members of the BeckonJewel team visited Evans backstage in his private theatre dressing room - a meeting shaped by conversation about design, creativity, and artistic process. Though not a commissioned project, it became a meaningful dialogue between artist and admirer.

Organic recognition from respected figures in film carries weight - not as endorsement, but as affirmation. Evans’ interaction with the Sugar Skull introduced BeckonJewel’s craftsmanship to new audiences and marked a significant milestone for a British jewellery house built on narrative and sculptural design. It also inspired the development of the Small Sugar Skull as a permanent collection piece - allowing others to wear a design that began its journey in a meaningful, personal moment.
